Let the Sunshine In
(NEW YORK) Despite cloudy skies, Vogue Eyewear and the CFDA celebrated the soleil last night at the launch of a new collaborative collection. Guests hid from the rain on the second floor of Sunglass Hut’s flagship store, and shed their umbrellas in favor of champagne.
The jet-setting Jessica Szohr was happy to be home in New York after flying from London to Paris and then to Toronto (and back) over the last few weeks. “Although I’ll always say Wisconsin is my real home, because that’s where my family is!” said the Gossip Girl actress as she tried on the shades. "It’s so easy to lose sunglasses," she admitted. "I end up leaving them in cabs. I’ve probably lost 20 or 30 pairs!”
The tendency for eyewear to disappear is exactly why designer Kara Ross “never spends a lot of money on sunglasses.” Ross’ winning design, as chosen by the CFDA, was inspired by her work as a fine jeweler and gemologist. “I literally just hopped off the bus from the beach!” revealed Matt Murphy, who designed a pair of specs for the project and is feeling pretty lucky overall. “I just won the lottery! It was only 10 bucks, but it made me feel amazing."
Murphy was esctatic to have Alexis Bledel favoring his shades at the event. Bledel posed with friend and fellow actress Emmy Rossum and the photos were sent---where else?---directly to Facebook.
