Return to the Palais
(PARIS) Stefano Pilati brought that little show of his back to the Grand Palais this season, treating his front row to an invigorating concert in the process. LCD Soundsystem provided a live musical accompaniment to the runway, and instantly charmed the crowd. “It gets troublesome for me,” smiled Kylie Minogue. “I start moving to the music and I feel like I’m the only one in the audience who is dancing. I wanted to just get up and let it go.” And the petite singer did not forget about the fashion portion of the evening, either. “I want one of those capes right now, “she insisted. “It was the most studied and gorgeous collection. I need to go and give a hug to Stefano immediately and beg for coats.”
The designer’s other fanatics included Carine Roitfeld, who was sandwiched in between two Marios: Sorrenti and Testino, Philippe Starck who was booed by the photo pit after greeting a friend across the runway, and virtually every relevant editor and buyer on earth. And for whoever is counting: American Vogue filled up seven front row seats, while Elle merited three.
But few editors, singers, and architects could measure up to Catherine Deneuve’s elite status in Paris. “I’m shooting a film at the moment here, so I’m glad this a nice little 8 p.m. slot,” she said from her seat. “Otherwise I wouldn’t make it, and that just won’t do.” Her seatmate, François-Henri Pinault, was overjoyed she did make it out. “I love all of Catherine’s movies,” he smiled. “Choosing a favorite is almost impossible, but every kid remembers their first time watching Peau d'âne. And now the fairytale is next to me!”
