Matthew Williamson for Bulgari
(NEW YORK) Matthew Williamson left his post at Pucci in 2008 to focus on his eponymous line, but now he’s been tapped to design for another house again: Bulgari. Williamson will design a collection of handbags for the jewelry brand for Spring 2011, to be presented at Milan’s next Fashion Week in September. Bulgari CEO Francesco Trapani explained that the British designer—the first designer to collaborate with the company—was picked for “the great sense of color and design he brings to his work.”
Bulgari, which hails back to the beginning of the 20th century, only introduced handbags and leather goods in 2008 (the company also produces silk scarves, table and gift lines, and eyewear). Gianluca Lera, a Fendi alum who is considered partially responsible for Bulgari’s recent growth in its accessories categories, exited the house in September of last year.
