Media Shock! Carol Smith Leaves Elle for Bon Appetit and Gourmet
(NEW YORK) Carol Smith, senior vice president and chief brand officer of the Elle Group, is leaving Hachette Filipacchi Media—to join Condé Nast. The 8-year alum of Hachette, whose name is listed above Elle editor in chief Roberta Myers on the magazine’s masthead, will leave at the end of the month to become vice president and publishing director of the Bon Appetit and Gourmet brands.
Smith spoke to The Daily in Febuary, about her haircut (she swears she had it before Anna--but is there room for two bobs at Condé?), her business strategies for the magazine, and the real meaning of her head-scratching title. "I think you need a president of a brand because you need a leader," she said. "You need someone to say we’re going down this road." (The full article can be read here.) Meanwhile, Myers spent the morning filming a segment on The Martha Stewart Show with fellow City star Erin Kaplan.
