Spring 2012: Alexander McQueen
(PARIS) Alexander McQueen
If you think you've taken a ride on every sartorial seafaring voyage to flood the Paris catwalks, make room for one more--Sarah Burton's powerful Spring narrative laced with an enchanting oceanic undercurrent. Mermaid warriors floated down the runway inside the Centquatre art center in Paris' 19th Arrondissement decked out in fantastical looks spliced with a touch of demure, a hint of dom, and a whole lotta McQueen. When it wasn't a ruffled suit, cinched in at the waist, and dipped in gold or a teeny tiny flouncy babydoll, it was a sweeping coral crustacean dress--slit to there--or a swan-like gown with a corseted pelagic swirl torso and feathered skirt. Diving head first into the dark depths of the sea, Burton harkened to her mentor with pearlized head coverings and dark lacy swim caps or face-fitting masks atop moody laser-cut leather onsies, noir peplum jackets, and a breathtaking ruffled Elizabethan gown paired with a sheer beaded cape. All aboard!
